Hi everyone and thank you so much for checking out my blog. I will not try to bore you too much and hopefully I can make you laugh and you will learn a little more of a country I never knew existed until couple of months ago. Starting this adventure was a feat all in it self. Last year when I got so tired of working for a company that was just so heartless, I decided it was time to move on. I put out my resume' and completed applications to different companies to see what was out there. I had been with my former company for 13 years so I was out of the loop so to speak. I also applied for the Peace Corps. Well, I guess God was having fun with me because the same time I was offered a position as the payroll supervisor for the county, I was also offer to join the Peace Corps. What do I do? Didn't know what to do so I said yes to both. I figure I would work until the application process was completed for the Peace Corps (and believe me it takes a reallllly long time) and when I am finally offered a country, I would make my final decision. Well, the country came up and at this point in my life it was a no brainer.. Peace Corps hands down.
Azerbaijan is small country that has its own language (Azi) and is east of Georgia, Russia and north of Turkey and Armenia (and Iran). I will be team teaching with a local teacher in a secondary school.
As you follow me through my journey, I pray that you smile at my successes and laugh with me at my challenges ( and believe me there will be plenty) and know that all I do is for the glory of God.
Life Challenge: Know that God has your best interest, you will be doing it in His time not yours, have patience and enjoy being out of your comfort zone, it only makes you stronger.
I am so excited for you, Annette! It will be a joy to see what God has on His agenda for you. I also hope that you will get to all of the places you intended here in the states before embarking on the plane to Azerbaijan. I especially hope you get to see Vivian. Tell her "hello" for me...I need to get no her blog...it's been awhile!
ReplyDeleteHi Annette! So I'm already interested in your journey just based on your description of what you packed (and didn't pack)! I found the some FAST FACTS about Azerbaijan on the National Geographic website (see below). I'm impressed that their literacy rate is 97%! And soon, thanks to you, their English-speaking abilities will skyrocket! Can't wait to hear more of your adventures! Heidi
