Since two of my grandchildren will be having birthdays very soon; Happy Birthday Owen who will be six on March 31 and Happy Birthday Emma who will be three on Easter Sunday, April 8, I wanted to let them know how bless I am to be their Mama Net. And I do believe it is a privilege and a blessing to be a grandparent. My grandchildren are bless as well to have the parents they have and the opportunities of the country they live in. I am so very proud of them as I watch them grow and learn so much. My daughter-in-law degree is in child development so my grandchildren have even more opportunities then most children. And she works with them on projects that I never thought to do with my own children. Owen at five is experimenting (another Einstein or Galileo) and Emma is fearless as everything is an opportunity that she can be anything she wants to be (another Wonder Woman or a Princess!!). Children are like sponges, they absorb everything that is given to them, the good, the bad or the ugly. As in this culture here, girls are taught at a very young age that they are to get married and that is their career, very little else is available to them. They learn all the housekeeping skills and are not treated well or expected to do anything else. The boys on the other hand are spoiled and allowed to run a muck so to speak with no consequences. An example of this behavior, I went grocery shopping yesterday and was at the cashiers with my grocery and a very rude man came up and put his groceries in front of me and kind of pushed me aside and demanded that the cashier bag his groceries. I think the cashier was embarrassed and he looked at me like "I'm sorry this guy is a jerk". But this is normal here and I see this type of rudeness on a daily basis. I hope that I can change this at least in my conversation club. I have both boys and girls, I want them to have fun, be happy to learn and to respect each other as equals.
Happy Birthday Owen & Emma from Mama Net... I love you Both VERY MUCH..
