Mt. Fuji

The day started out raining here in Funatsu. I was prepared with my North face rain pants and jacket.  I ate breakfast early and bought my bus ticket to station 5 at Kawaguchiko.  I was taking the Yoshida trail and to the top it is 12,388 feet or 3776 meters.  When I got to station 5 the rain and wind were worst.  This is not looking good.  I went inside to the information office and was told it was extremely dangerous to climb today.  As he was talking an ambulance was coming down the mountain (apparently a hiker was treated for exposure and exhaustion).  I asked if it is possible to go to station 6 and see.  He said that the winds gets worst as you go up.  I decided to try it and off I went.  The weather changes drastically in the matter of minutes.  The hike to station 6 was not bad, rain became a drizzle and the wind was not hard (but I was still in the tree line protected), the higher I got the wind seem to die down at the moment.  Okay, made it to station 6, let me try station 7 see how the weather will hold up.  Well, about half way up to station 7, it really started to rain, and then it began to hail and at one point the wind just picked up and it was relentless. I could not see and the wind almost knock me down. At that point I made the decision to turn around and come back down.  I do not need to put my life in danger because I needed to summit.  I tried and it just was not meant for me to get up to the top.  I may have to come back some day and try again!!  I am disappointed but I am okay with it. I never got to see the top of the mountain as it is cloudy and overcast and raining.  And you just won't believe that they have an amazement park here with some incredible roller coasters. Here are pictures of this beautiful mountain.
On the train first sign I saw for Mt. Fuji
