In a couple of weeks, I am going to Georgia (not the state, the country) north of Azerbaijan and I am told that Georgian wine is the best in this neck of the woods. I am so looking forward to having a good class of wine. When I lived in my temporary housing with the family I notice that the elder father and son did very little around the house (are you surprised???). Most (or I should say ALL) of the housework, cooking, canning, etc. is done by the women (mother and daughter-in-law). But I kept seeing the elder (grandpa) going to the store and returning with larger containers each time. And all of the fruits (mulberries, cherries, etc) that had been picked inside these jars. As I walked to the outside toilet, I notice they were in the sun fizzing (I'm thinking they are making compote, an Azerbaijan VERY sweet fruit juice), but each day the jars kept getting bigger and what was even more surprising, both of the man were outside with a small hose filtering the juice from one jar to another. Hmmm that's so strange, those men are actually helping (but at this point, I didn't notice the women never came near those jars and bottles). After a couple of weeks, it finally dawn on me (duh), so I asked Myrna was that wine (vino I asked), I didn't know wine in Azerbaijan. She smiled and said yes it is. My goodness, men can do manual labor when it is in there best interest!! Here are some of the wine pictures and darn I missed the picture of the men working on them!
