Where do I start.. Wow... I didn't think that staying at the hotel in Baku would be a highlight. The Caspian Sea was amazing (pics to follow). My village that I am living in is called Messariz. I will be there for 3 months with Intensive language, culture and TEFL training. I guess it was luck for some that have indoor plumbing and running indoor water but I was not so lucky. My host family is wonderful but it is a challenge living in this environment for me. The family is poor, no indoor plumbing. The bathroom is outside (called squat toilet) and the shower is heated by wood stove and not often! Diet consist of potatoes, sausage (or hot dogs) and bread. Hm mm not good. I have manage to have tomatoes and cucumbers and today I bought milk, pears, and apples. I have a PC water filter I used or I buy water. The Internet in my village does not exist for women, I must ride the bus to Xirdalan to find an Internet cafe. Today I am at headquarters and they have Internet. I go to a primary school from 9-6 PM for classes and then walk a 1 1/2 mile back to my host family. The biggest problem here is rabies as there are too many animals that are not neutered. We have started a series of rabies shots. The dogs run in packs and you have to be alert. We cannot be out after dark, too dangerous. So until next time, Salam, Axshaminiz Xeyir (goodbye and good evening).
