Petroglyphs Qobustan

Qobustan Petroglyphs -10-20-11

Another challenging week .  Saturday I went to Qobustan and took some great pictures of petroglyphs.  They are similar to the ones back home.  The Anasazi  (pre-historic natives) were in this region, and I had asked the guide if there were any other sites.  He said there were but the public were not allowed to visit.  I wonder how many sites there are here and in other countries. As you can see, the day was beautiful, the sun was shinning and warm and I was doing something I loved to do, taking pictures of petroglyphs that were thousand of years old. This was a good day.

Sunday was extremely gloomy and cold (what a difference a day makes!!) just the opposite of Saturday.  By evening my host family was having a lot of problems and finally about midnight, I had to call PC security and they came and picked me up.  That evening I stayed in Xirdalan, the next town over and Monday, they put me into a new host family.  This is a good host family and I am very happy with them. They are warm and kind and feed me a lot.  Then on Tuesday, the medical doctor called and they picked me up from school to check on my knee.  It had swollen up, so they decided to take x-ray to see what the problem was.  They decided to drain it and give me a steroid shot.  The doctor told me to ice it (right, this country does not have ice) and keep it elevated.  I went home to my host family and as soon as they saw my knee, they put me by the furnace and wrapped me with two blankets and immediately brought me tea!! So much for icing!!  The reason I had problems with my knee, my host family told me, is that I drink cold water and did not drink tea with LOTS of sugar.  Oh, that make sense!!  I found that warmth is the cure all for all ills in Azerbaijan!  My goodness, it is only Tuesday, I think my challenges are behind me??

Life Challenge:  Even if you can't see something, it doesn't mean it isn't there.  Try something scary and you may find it isn't scary at all!!
