See the snow all the mountains are covered |
I finally got my gas stove (challenge) after many days of asking and being told "tomorrow", we are ordering it from Baku? Yea, right what I have learned is that people are not always truthful. I finally got my heater and it was a wood converted to gas stove and about 30 years old. The neighbor who is a repairman by trade came over at 10:30 pm (after work) to set it up. It was very dirty and when he left soot everywhere. Because it was so late and I needed to get up early for school I waited until the next day to clean up. The next evening after cleaning everything up, I lite the stove, put a kettle of water on, changed into my pj's and was just settling in to read my new Sue Grafton book (W is for Wasted) when I heard a knock on the door. They had new pipes (not new per se just different ones) he needed to change them so no smoke would get through. Oh good, I just cleaned up and they never said they were coming back. So after he left, another mess to clean up. Oh well, at least it is nice and warm in my room now!!It may be small but it is Warm!!! |
So, then on Friday I went in to take a shower. This is a very old shower probably around 30 years old (same year as the heater I bet!) and the knobs do not work as they should and the water only comes out of the shower head and not the faucet. I have to get undressed to start the shower and it took a few minutes to get the hot water on but I finally got it on. I took my shower, on the plus side, there is plenty of water and the hot water comes immediately. I finished my shower and I couldn't turn off the hot water valve. I worked on it for 5 minutes naked and nothing. I got my towel and ran across the garden into my bedroom and got dressed, and came back and tried again "not happening". I then ran upstairs to get Nermin (the landlady's daughter) to come down and help. She came and just looked, I showed her what was happening and she just looked helplessly. I called our mutual friend to explain to her what was happening and then she finally turned the water off. The repair man will come that evening. Whew, (another challenge). I had to go because I had a meeting with the Director of the Russian school and he had the TEFL application for a volunteer. We then went to Social Services and received another application for a YD volunteer. After we went to the Ecological and the Nature Reserve Departments and spoke to the Directors. They were both very interested in having a volunteer so I left applications (an CD & YD). They need to speak to the ministry before they can complete the application, so next week I will follow up with them. On our way back home, we stopped at the chess school (yes they do have a school the teaches chess) and we set up a meeting with the Director for next week. That evening the repairman came over and worked on the shower. It was so old when he took off the knob, the inners just crumbled. It needed a whole new unit (I offered to buy it and be reimbursed because if I waited for them, it would be weeks!!), so the next day another friend came with me to the Bazaar and I bought the unit. Oh, and this time I didn't clean up the mess in the bathroom, I waited until the work was completed!! That evening the repairman came back and installed it (it took him over 2 hours as the pipes were old) but now I can regulate the water without getting naked first!! I had a great shower after that. I am still waiting on my wardrobe, hopefully this week. I figured by the time I leave this place it will be dial in (as my son would say) for the next PCV and he or she will have it made!!
My new shower!! |
I almost hate to get up in the morning to see what new challenge awaits me!!! At least I know God is having a good time with my challenges!!!
