First Stop Tel Aviv and Jaffa

As promised I took lots of pictures and will share them.  I got to Tel Aviv and took a train to the Central Bus Station and then got on a number 10 bus and made it to my hostel.  It is in the center of town and very near the beach (the Mediterranean Sea) absolutely beautiful.  Tel Aviv is a very modern city whereas Jaffa is very old. For around 4000 years, Jaffa stood as one of the great ports of the Mediterranean Sea. I took a walking tour of Jaffa and found that the port was used by Solomon to import his wood to Jerusalem to build the temple. The Old Testament claims that Noah's son Japheth founded Jaffa.  In 1468 it was lost to the Egyptians.  Islam swept over the port in the 8th century and remain in Muslim hands until the British drove out the Turks in 1917. There was tension between the Jews and the Arab community in 1921 and as everyone knows there was a war after years of riots in 1948 which saw the majority of Jaffa's Arab population leaving and the Old City has been in Jewish hands since.  Didn't know you were going to get a history lesson, did ya!!
