The Art Project |
Many things I have learned here. I thank God every day for living in America where we have so much. I have learned that Teachers here pay for EVERYTHING and I mean everything. This is a newer school but we have been without water for weeks. I do bring my own hand sanitizer but what about everyone else??? I kept asking my counterpart why no water, do you know how unsanitary that is for both the children and teachers? Well, finally I was told that apparently a trap of some sort broke and all teachers were required to pay money for the part before it could be repair. This is just amazing to me, the teachers pay to work at school, pay for books, pay for supplies, pay for copies and everything else. Wow!!!
As it was coming to the end of the school year (and sooner for us because of the earthquake!!), my friend and Ya Ya sister Alicia (thank you so much friend) sent me bandannas and cloth paint for an art project for the children. I wanted to wait to close to the end of the school year to have a fun project for the students and then I realize that my club kept growing and my friend only sent me 30 bandannas, but I had close to 60 children, what to do?? I opened the bandannas and they were huge so I cut each one diagonally and then took them to a tailor to sew a seam where I had cut them. Now I have 60 bandannas and the tailor charged me 2 manat (about $3.50) to sew 60 seams, what a bargain!!! There is another problem here, most children are not creative, they have rulers and everything must be drawn perfect, so drawing free hand is out of there comfort zone and they would actually freak out and just don't know what to do. I had all the students put their names, year and village (Alliabad), but everything else was free hand. So before they even started, I had them drawing in their notebook what they would like to see on their bandana... Now this week the students because of no school they were told word of mouth about the art club, so I only had about 20 total students, but they were happy and had a great day.... Okay, here are the results:
Aren't these kids AWESOME!!!! Once they got started, they became very creative... yea
