Well, Week 3 and I am still here. Last Saturday, it rained so hard that all the streets flooded. They have no gutters or sewage outlets. We had language at the school and then had to take a bus to PC in the next town. This was not fun and not only did it down pour, it also was extremely cold. When I did get to PC last week, I was able to write my blog which was a highlight. I am trying to come to the office each week to at least write my blog. My situation at my host family is still a challenge but I am getting use to it. My host family is extremely poor and I see how blessed I am. I am learning to go without a shower every day and foods that I thought that I must have. I do my laundry by hand (my host mother is called Svetve) is such a hard worker, she takes my clothes and washes them like an automatic washing machine in half the time!! I buy fresh milk from another PC trainee host family (it has been boiled and it is okay to drink) and trust me it is better and fresher than milk from the grocery store. Svetve is a great cook, she knows I don't eat meat, (hot dogs not sure what's in it and I don't want to chance getting sick!!), but I eat very basic. I have boiled eggs and bread (which I bring to school because I can't eat the first thing in the morning). Then for dinner I may have stewed green beans with tomatoes, and onions, or mash potatoes and once a week a piece of chicken. I always have fresh tomatoes with cucumber and I buy fruit in season, apples, pears and peaches. I have tea alot and I did bring my packets of Starbucks which I only have a few left. But I can buy instant coffee (Nescafe what else), which I will probably do. The family I live with only has only the basic foods.
Just so you know, pedestrians DO NOT have the right of way and that includes children in crosswalks. Slow cars are unheard of here, the traffic is crazy and you do NOT hesitate when running across the street because they do not slow down for anyone (I think they speed up).
This was on You Tube... thought you would enjoy... Next time a language lesson!!!
